Varun Jindal completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta in the Finance and Control area. His dissertation titled “Corporate financing decisions and their implications: Evidence from takeovers and rights offerings by firms in India” exploits the uniqueness of the Indian context to answer some important research questions on the financing decisions by firms. His primary research interests span across mergers and acquisitions, seasoned equity offerings, and business groups.
His papers have appeared in the Journal of Corporate Finance and International Business Review. He has also co-authored a case for IIM Calcutta Case Research Center. He is the recipient of several awards and honours, including the Emerald India Best Paper Award at the Pan IIM World Management Conference 2017, the Director’s Medal for the Best Outgoing Student of MBA Class of 2010, the CRISIL Young Thought Leader 2009 Runner-up Award, and the Knowledge Management “Super Kruiser” Award 2007 at Infosys Ltd. He is also a recipient of the NSE-NYU Stern Financial Grant for USD 3,750 for his research work. He has presented his research work at several reputed conferences, including JAAF India Symposium 2020, Australasian Finance and Banking Conference 2019, SFA Annual Meeting 2019, Sydney Banking and Financial Stability Conference 2019, India Research Conference at NYU Stern 2018, JCAE Annual Symposium 2018, NSE-NYU Stern Conference at NSE 2018, and New Zealand Finance Meeting 2017.
After completing his PhD, he has joined IIM Bangalore as an Assistant Professor in the Finance and Accounting area.
