THE WORKSHOP

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta Case Research Centre (IIMCCRC) is hosting a two day workshop on the Case Method, the 13th (Thursday) & 14th (Friday) of February 2014.

ABOUT IIMCCRC

Our mission is to champion the cause of Case Based Learning in Business Schools and other institutions in India through

  • Creating a repository of teaching cases with an Indian context
  • Spreading awareness on the value ofthe Case Method in learning, especially management learning
  • Setting and propagating practice standards for development and use of cases in managementeducation.

OBJECTIVES

This workshop will emphasize the value of the case method in the learning process. It is intended for all those with an interest in using case studies as a teaching tool, as well as those who are interested in research and development of such teaching cases.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This workshop is primarily meant for, though not limited to

  • Faculty in academic institutionswho would like to adopt the case method in their classrooms
  • Doctoral students who would like to use the case method as part of their research
  • Case researchers and writers interested in developing cases and teaching notes
  • Corporate learning and development executives who would like to adopt the case method.

Workshop on Case Writing and Teaching
  • The first half of the workshop aims to enable the development of writing case studies; participants will learn the theory behind developing a good case study and the guiding principles of writing case studies
  • The second half of the workshop would be designed for faculty who aspire to improve upon their skills in discussing case studies in the classroom; the principles of effectively leading a discussion in case study analysis would be explored during the session

Day 2 Journey of a case writer
  • Interactive discussion, highlighting the presenter’s insights into the process of case writing; she will talk about her personal experiences as a case writer, both at the University of Hong Kong, as well as Singapore Management University

SPEAKER PROFILES

DR PHILLIP C ZERILLO

phillipDr. Phillip C Zerillo Ph.D. is the Director of Postgraduate Programs and the Director of the Case Writing Initiative at Singapore Management University. He is also the current chairman of the board at Thammasat University in Thailand. He has been invited to teach at several universities, including Thammasat University (Thailand), Hebrew University (Israel), IMADEC University (Austria), Helsinki School of Economics (Singapore) and Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management since 1991.

Dr. Zerillo was the Graduate Dean and Director of the MBA Program at the University of Texas at Austin before moving to Emory University. He joined the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. After receiving his BBA from the University of Texas, where he received the University’s “Most Outstanding Scholar Award” he spent 7 years in the finance industry. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in marketing from Northwestern University’s J. L. Kellogg School of Management, where he was a fellow for the Steel Resource Foundation. Dr. Zerillo’s dissertation proposal was honoured as the outstanding submission by the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM). He has recently consulted in the high tech, market research, packaged goods and auto industries. He is a member of the board of directors of several companies operating in these industries. He is an author of numerous published articles in the field of distribution channel management and business system innovation.

HAVOVI JOSHI

havoviHavovi Joshi is the Head of Communications and Dissemination for the Centre for Management Practice at Singapore Management University. She has over 20 years experience in international banking and consulting services. Havovi graduated with honors from the University of Delhi with a B.A. in Mathematics. She then completed her Masters in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in India.

Havovi is a prolific writer and authority on case writing, having published a substantial number of case studies. She has also run professional case writing and teaching workshops, which have been highly regarded by executives and faculty. Havovi has lived and worked in India, Australia, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Singapore. She currently lives in Singapore.

Registration fee is INR 2,000 + 12.36% service tax;includes workshop materials, lunch and refreshments.
