Overview
We at IIM Calcutta feel that long gone are the days when a silo-approach to management worked. In the highly integrated world that we live in, management needs to be looked at from a holistic point of view that helps solve problems as a whole rather than piece by piece. Our fellow students are also inculcated with a similar attitude, encouraging them to view management issues from different perspectives, and try and arrive at solutions that collate the best strategy from each viewpoint.
It is also important to understand that research is a very important pillar on which the reputation and worth of an institute is built. IIM Calcutta has always been a thought leader in the field of Management Research in India and the Asia Pacific region. In keeping with this tradition, the fellowship program at IIMC is very highly regarded, and generates significant research content. Thus adding value to the FP student’s research capability and scope is always a priority. Any partnership which can augment this is of great importance and can add immense value to both partners.
To put the above idea into practice and to help our fellowship students become exposed to different schools of thought on management, we have shaped up a unique student exchange program for them. Under this program we would like our students to complete a part of their thesis under a faculty member from a partner institute. We believe that this exposure would help them appreciate their subject more, give rise to better quality research work and also prepare them for the future, especially if they get to teach classes composed of students having a diverse mindset.
As for the fellow students who come to our campus from abroad, they will definitely cherish their stay as they gain insights into management with an Indian perspective. Moreover, they will be able to see how one needs to adapt the theoretical concepts when putting them into practice, depending upon the local sensibilities.
The exact modus operandi for putting in place such exchange programs, are worked out with individual partners, keeping in mind the compatibility with existing practices at both institutes and maximum scope for leveraging such an exchange facility for the students, the faculty, and the institutes.
