IIMCAA Singapore hosted the visit of IIMC Director Prof. Anju Seth to Singapore

IIMCAA Singapore hosted the visit of IIMC Director Prof. Anju Seth to Singapore on April 30/May 1. She joined them for a lively Nostalgia evening on April 30th, attended by more than 130 alumni – one of the largest gatherings of our alumni in Singapore for a chapter event. They had a Town Hall session with the Director. This was followed by JBS (Joka Band Stand) guys who belted out songs to keep them enthralled. A cross section of Pan IIM women alumni had a chat over coffee with Prof. Seth on the next day. This was followed by a lunch reception by the senior alumni. It was a good opportunity for them to get to know the new Director and for her to get a feel for their alumni presence here.

IIM Calcutta presents a report on BARC India's TV panel size

BARC India has joined hands with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta to curate a report on BARC India’s TV panel sample sizes. The report presented to BARC India summarises the review, analysis, and recommendations for the sample design of BARC India’s panel. On sample sizes in general, the report states that an ideal sample size depends on many factors and, “there is no unique nor ideal solution”. Instead, sample size should be based on aspects such as the sample design, cost of sampling, overall budget, population characteristics and other internal considerations BARC India needs to account for.

Some of the observations made in the report by IIM-C on BARC India’s sample size include:

  • Appreciation of the existing practice and no need for any significant departure from the current sample sizes.
  • Opportunity of gaining additional insights by 15 per cent to 20 per cent increase in sample size.
  • The choice of 55,000 sample size for the next round appears quite reasonable

The professors even commended BARC India on its way of clearly and concisely documenting information of sample design and its overall data collection procedures.

IIM Calcutta signs MoU with Jan Chetna Trust

IIM Calcutta has signed a MoU with The Jan Chetna Trust, established by Late Prof. Nirmal Chandra--for organizing the Nirmal Chandra Memorial Lecture series. IIM Calcutta has additionally received an amount of Rs 10 lacs for the implementation of the initiative, which will be held annually between November and February. This initiative has been created to honour the outstanding contributions of the Institute's former faculty member of the Economics group, Late Prof. Nirmal Chandra.

Prof. Nirmal Chandra was a renowned economist and socialist thinker who encouraged many individuals to undertake the path of research in the field of economics. He offered a very distinct insight towards economics to his pupils and was a great inspiration to those who received his able guidance. He joined IIM Calcutta in 1966 as an assistant professor. He was one of the early recruit professors of the institute who played a pivotal role in shaping not just the Economics group, but also the perception of management education as a whole. He and his fellow professors emphasized on the need for management education to be implemented towards development of the society and not just remain confined to the corporate world.
