5th International Day of Yoga
International Day of Yoga, or commonly referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. An international day for yoga was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares a special significance in many parts of the world.
Since its inception in 2015, IIM Calcutta has been celebrating the International Day of Yoga on June 21 in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and now in 2019 on a regular basis as per the directives of MHRD, Govt. of India.
The celebration took place at 7.00 a.m. at the 1st floor premises of the Lake View Hostel Canteen with appropriate ambience for conducting the session of Yoga. The session was conducted by a professionally-managed team from Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari and the team was led by Dr Arun Kumar Upadhyay.
The Director, Dr Anju Seth, Dean (Academic), Professor Bodhibrata Nag, Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Alok Chandra, other officers, staff and students of the Institute participated and did the entire session of Yoga and Pranayam, which lasted for more than an hour. The session was started with the inaugural speech by the Director who encouraged the enthusiastic participants for their presence in the session. This was followed by the session of Yoga and Pranayam conducted by the team of Vivekananda Kendra. The session came to an end with the concluding speech and vote of thanks by the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Alok Chandra. The student-run, Choreo Club presented Yoga dance after the Common Yoga Protocol session was over.
Incubatee Meet by IIMCIP
An Incubatee Meet was organised by IIMCIP on April 3, 2019 where five of our best start-ups were felicitated by Professor Anju Seth, the Director of IIM Calcutta and Dr Prashant Mishra - Dean (New Initiatives and External Relations), IIM Calcutta in the presence of senior professors. The Start-ups were: HelpUsGreen, RC Hobby Tech, Bodhi Health Education, DeHaat and 5C Network.
137th Birthday celebration of DR B C Roy
The B. C. Roy Memorial Library commemorated the 137th birthday of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy on 1st July 2019 at 10.00 a.m. at the library premises. In presence of the Director, Dr Anju Seth and Dean (Academic), Professor Bodhibrata Nag, the event was attended by the Librarian, officers and staff of the Institute. The event was started with garlanding and offering flowers to the engraved Statue / photo by the Director, Dean (Academic) and others, followed by speeches by the Director, Dean (Academic) and others.
Teaching Summer School 2019
The Finance Lab organized the second teaching summer school on Finance and Accounting during 22-26 April, 2019. The primary objective of this teaching summer school was to expose participants to the art of teaching by using different pedagogy. The topics were carefully chosen by experts and the event was divided in two modules – Accounting (module I) and Finance (module II). A total of 25 participants attended the teaching summer school. The participants were professors, doctoral students and others. The faculty of the Finance & control group conducted the sessions. Prof. Vivek Rajvanshi was the principal coordinator of the programme.
Research Summer School 2019
The Finance Lab hosted the 5th Research Summer School in Empirical Finance and Accounting during April 29 – May 7, 2019 with an objective to help improve the quality of research in empirical finance and accounting in India. The topics covered were Banking, Accounting, Asset Pricing, Earnings Management and Corporate Finance. The format of the summer school was more towards 'learning by doing' with speakers mainly acting as facilitators. Prof. Samit Paul and Prof. Sudhakar Reddy were the principal coordinators of the programme. Like last year, a pre-summer school tutorial was held during April 27 - 28, 2019. The pre-summer school segment on Financial Econometrics helped the participants learn important statistical methods and techniques that are commonly used in research in Finance and Accounting. The pre-school sessions were taken by Prof. Samit Paul with Doctoral students of IIM Calcutta. This Research Summer School was attended by 20 participants, which included professors, doctoral students and others.
The sessions were conducted by faculty from the IIM Bangalore (Prof. Pulak Ghosh), ISB Hyderabad (Prof. Prasanna Tantri) and IIM Calcutta (Prof. Ashok Banerjee, Prof. Arpita Ghosh, Prof. Sudhakara Reddy, Prof. Samit Paul, Prof. Sudhir Jaiswall, Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya, Prof. Parthapratim Pal and Prof. Saptarshi Purkayastha). A total of 6 research proposals were presented and discussed. The proposal presentations also included results of pilot study. The Finance Lab has provided necessary data to all participants.
Assam Cohort 1.0 by IIMCIP
Assam Startup-The Nest successfully completed the three-day boot-camp and orientation session for 52 selected incubatees from 9-11 June 2019. The 3-day workshop began with an ice-breaking session followed by a series of meticulous sessions on the key aspects of entrepreneurship. The startups have been familiarized with the crucial concepts of a business like design thinking, business and financial modelling, customer acquisition, marketing and branding, and so on. Some of the personalities to take sessions during the Bootcamp are Dr Prashant Mishra - Dean (New Initiatives and External Relations), IIM Calcutta; Rajesh Singhal - Asst. Vice President, Bennett Coleman and Co. Ltd. (Times Group); Prof Chandradeep Mitra -Corporate Trainer and StartupMentor, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park; Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal - CEO, IIM Calcutta Innovation Park; Pankaj Periwal - FCA (Branch in-charge for V.Singhi & Associates Guwahati) and Abhijit Bhuyan - Co-Founder and Managing Director of Bohniman Systems Pvt. Ltd.
Mizoram Kailawn by IIMCIP
IIMCIP has partnered with the Mizoram government to launch the third edition of the biggest B-plan contest in the state. It was inaugurated by the chief secretary of Mizoram Lalnunmawia Chuaungo in Aizawl on 17th June 2019 and the event was attended by over 200 budding entrepreneurs. IIMCIP through this initiative aims to nurture the start-up ecosystem and promote entrepreneurship in the state by mentoring the young minds and connecting them with their desired markets as well as venture capitalists.
