Clarion Call by IIMCAA Mumbai

Clarion Call, the flagship event of IIMCAA Mumbai was conducted at IIT Bombay in April, this year. The event aimed at providing a platform to budding entrepreneurs to present their unique ideas. The participants were evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges who were Mr. Subranshu Sanyal, Mr. Sanjeev Aga, Mr. Shashank Randev and Mr. Bikram Mahajan. The event saw participation from entrepreneurs across India and a plethora of great ideas came to the fore. There were a total of 140+ entries of which 40 were selected for the Semi Finale conducted in Ikea, Powai. 10 teams were shortlisted for the Finals, held in IIT Bombay. The winning teams were - Zeroone - a start-up in the fintech domain, For binary - a start up in the enterprise resource planning domain, Proximal - Agri - Tech start up and Medha - A tech start up. The teams competed for an attractive prize money of Rs 1 Lakh sponsored by the Alumni Association and the event partners Lead Angels.

Nostalgia and other events at IIMCAA Chennai

The new team at the Chennai Alumni Chapter kicked off the year with a topical panel discussion titled “DEFs of Elections”. The panelists included Mr. T.S.Krishnamurthy, former Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, sitting MLA, erstwhile Managing Director at Standard Chartered and our own Distinguished Alumnus Dr. M.R. Madhavan of PRS Legislative Research. The audience left with deep understanding of the election process from the perspective of administration, a candidate and an analyst.

There have been regular neighbourhood level mixers being organised by the alumni residing in Chennai. These are local gatherings where alumni get to meet other alumni living in the area and form a social bond. Typically organised in neighbourhood cafes, these events also see informal quizzes, riddles and gyan sessions by visiting alumni/experts.

Nostalgia 2019 was a huge success at Chennai this year. More than 125 people turned up. The event was graced by Dean, Prof. Prashant Mishra who gave an update on campus happenings to the Chennai denizens. There was also a speed networking event which helped alumni meet people beyond their batches, and a spirited karaoke session that extended well into the wee hours of the morning. The event was compelling enough for a senior alumnus to finish his board meeting in Mumbai and catch the earliest flight to get to Chennai to make the event. Such is the spirit of alumni in Namma Chennai.

For this year's Nostalgia, HDFC Diners came up with a cobadged offering of a life time free credit card and took up sponsorship across seven locations.

IIMCAA Bangalore Chapter on multiple activities

The Bangalore chapter of the IIM Calcutta Alumni Association is one of the most active and fun chapters across cities. It has a community of around 2000+ active members engaging over various forums. The group connects over e-groups, Facebook and of course Whatsapp. There are active interest groups on Whatsapp too like Football and Music. Bangalore chapter also has many firsts to its name. They partnered with IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore to organize Pragati, a forum to bring start-ups and investors together. They have also started the trend of organizing sports meet with our eternal friends and rivals, XLRI. They have had 2 such sports meetings in the past. This has now branched into individual sports meets. Nostalgia is always a fun way to come together and Bangalore chapter organizes one of the largest events across the chapters. Nostalgia 2019 was a grand event which was attended by around 500 members. They had the privilege of hosting ShriKrishna Kulkarni, Chairman of the Board of Governers IIM Calcutta, in real IIM Calcutta style. JBS and Baro C entertained the crowd with foot thumping music. The crowd enjoyed and joined in too. The band closed in true IIM Calcutta style by singing the anthem. Of course the crowd did not need any invitation to conquer the stage to sing. This year they had an XL IIMC alumni football match. It was surprisingly a quite yet competitive match.
