LATTICE 2016: "Make It Happen"

As the quote by Michael Jordan states "Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen and others Make It Happen".

On Saturday, 17 September influential leaders from diverse industries gathered at the IIM Calcutta campus to exchange and share views on "thought leadership" in business, at the PGPEX annual business symposium, Lattice which ran on the theme "Make it Happen".

IIMCIP's Thinking Social Seminar

IIM Calcutta Innovation Park in association with Dibrugarh University had organized a Seminar on "Thinking Social" on September 26, 2016 at the Dibrugarh University Campus.

"Thinking Social" - one of the flagship event of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park is conducted in partnership with the TATA group. The primary objective of this event is to build awareness on social entrepreneurship, generate interest and inspire the young generation to come up with innovative solutions to social challenges. The speakers of this seminar comprise eminent academicians and social entrepreneurs, who have established their own outstanding ventures and have impacted the lives of thousands of people.

Oikos Carbon Credits Game

Oikos conducted an online carbon credits game earlier this week. The simulation game spread across four rounds gave students an understanding of how companies utilize and trade carbon credits to support business activities. The 50 teams participating in the contest were divided into sectors, each with a different set of macroeconomic scenarios that affected demand. The contestants had the chance of investing in long-term projects that yielded credits in the future as well as buying them directly from the market and then using these to meet the demand of goods in the market. The game also incorporated rules to penalize excess inventory, which added to the challenge of correctly identifying the demand based on the given macroeconomic tip. Joka Outliers and Team Sokio emerged victorious at the end of the four rounds, growing their cash at hand from $1mn to around $1.5mn.
ICQC Tapmi

On September 18, 2016, the IIM Calcutta Quiz Club (ICQC) hosted the Kolkata round of TAPMI's "Quiz-on-the-Beach," an international college-level business quiz. The event saw a turn-out of 15 teams, which included several outstation teams. The quiz was conducted by two members of TAPMI's quiz club, who came over to IIM Calcutta for the event.

The 15 teams battled it out for two coveted spots in the Semi-Finals of the event. After some intense rounds of quizzing, the team from NIT Rourkela won the top honours, while the team from IIM Calcutta comprising Vishwas Jajodia and Harshveer Jain (both PGP-2's) finished as runners up.

IIM Calcutta launches institutionalized One year Executive Education Programme on Post Graduate Certificate in General Management (PGCGM).

The "Post Graduate Certificate in General Management" (PGCGM) aims at developing competence in the theoretical foundations of management, and simultaneously seeks to inculcate a broad-based understanding of how the theories of management may be applied to managerial problems. The programme, developed in conjunction with the different academic groups at IIM Calcutta, offers a holistic understanding of the practice of management. Designed as a part-time programme and delivered through the direct-to-device mode, PGCGM provides participants the opportunity to develop applied competencies in general management with minimal impact on their work schedule and professional commitments.

Apply for INVENT: The INVENT program is launched by IIMCIP in association with DFID UK and TDB India. The program is designed to provide funding and capacity building to create a platform to support for-profit businesses which are designed to address one or more needs of people, are based on technology or business model innovation, are scalable, and capable of raising further funding from other investors, where such support shall include, but not be limited to provision of funding, intense mentoring, knowledge and access to talent, facilities and relevant networks.
