Choreo Club Salsa Workshop

Post the summer placement frenzy gripping the campus, a salsa workshop conducted by the choreography club was a breath of fresh air and promised to infuse energy in our lazy evenings. The instructor, Mr Swapan Ray of Z4 Dance Academy is a winner of various national level salsa competitions and being taught by him was a privilege. Amateur dancers lined up outside the auditorium with their partners to shake a leg and learn a dance form which is challenging yet exciting. The two day workshop helped people learn about various Latin dance forms, nomenclature of many sequences in Salsa and allowed them to actually discover the dancer within them. The catchy tune, the elegant twirls and the funky dance moves enthralled all of us and it was even more fun to try and match our steps with Swapan. The two days passed in a breeze and learning was immense but the one great takeaway was that passion and enthusiasm are the two qualities that define one’s learning. Although many of the participants were first time dancers, it was their passion which helped them learn and infused confidence in them to be the show stoppers at the next dance event they would attend. The initiative by the choreography club was a huge success and we all do look forward to more such opportunities.
ICICI Stockmind Season 5

After the astounding success of Game of Stocks earlier this year, the regional head. of ICICI securities Mr. Prasenjit Gupta who had come on campus to judge the event launched the 5th season of ICICI Stockmind. Stockmind is a nationwide contest hosted by ICICI direct Centre for Financial Learning (ICFL) intended at teaching students not just investing and financial skills, but essential life skills that would help give their careers a boost. Now in its fifth season, the competition lasted 7 days, with a very simple objective of maximizing portfolio value! After a week of intense strategizing, risk taking and execution, Dilip Kumar emerged as the winner of the competition followed by Akramali Mohammad and Mayur Rangdale. Dilip will represent IIM Calcutta for the final round in March!
IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) launches Invent:

IIMCIP in association with DFID UK and Technology Development Board (TDB), Govt. of India has recently launched INVENT. The program is designed to create a platform to support for-profit social enterprises, which are deploying innovative solutions to our social challenges. The objective is to create scalable businesses which are sustainable and capable of raising further investments. Under this program, IIMCIP plans to support more than 40 startups with funding of upto Rs.25 lakhs, followed by intense mentoring, knowledge imparting and access to capacity building programmes, support services, and relevant networks which will help them to move on to the next level.

IIMCIP has funded 6 incubatees

IIMCIP has established a robust incubation platform where startups with innovative business ideas can flourish. Currently it has 19 incubatees and have invested 1 crore seed fund in the following six startups - MyPrivateTutor, Bodhi Health Education, Edwell Solutions, Appeti, Organic Thali, and Magasool.

Thinking Social Seminar at IIIT Hyderabad

Tata Social Enterprise Challenge (TSEC) – a joint initiative of the Tata group and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) held the second seminar FY 2016-17, ‘Thinking Social’, at IIIT Hyderabad in partnership with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park and iBHubs Hyderabad on 23 October 2016. The speakers for the day comprised eminent social entrepreneurs, academicians and senior corporate executives working extensively in the Indian social entrepreneurship space like - Manjuvani Nayani, Managing Trustee - Tata Projects Community Development; Ramana Gogula, CEO & Founder – Earthen Glow; Prof. P. K. Reddy – IIIT Hyderabad and founder at eSagu; Mukhti K Bosco, Founder – Healing Fields Foundation; Raj Janagam, Managing Partner - HelloBhayya Services and Satish Kumar Burra, Founder – Organic Thali.

Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2016-17

IIMCIP launched the Tata Social Enterprise Challenge 2016-17 (business plan contest), a joint initiative with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) to find India’s most promising early-stage social enterprises. The endeavor of the challenge is to create an ecosystem for social entrepreneurship and encourage sustainable, scalable and measurable social impact. Impact Proposals (detailed Business Plans) were invited in the areas of agriculture, food and dairy, healthcare, water and sanitation, technology and development, education & skills development, housing, handicrafts, energy and microfinance/financial inclusion. We have received over 200+ applications and are currently in the evaluation stage. The semi-finals and finals will take place at IIM Calcutta campus from 12-14 January 2016.
