29th Edition: January 21, 2017

Reminiscence Choreo event

After a fascinating performance by the Dramatics club, the audience was anxious to see the members of the choreography club dazzle the stage with their performance. The dance sequences entailed a story of how a student had cracked CAT and come to IIM Calcutta and focussed on his memorable experiences at Joka. From world war to placements or from the gruelling classes to the much anticipated and talked IIM C- XLRI sports meet, the atmosphere was poignant with nostalgia. The audience clapped and cheered the performers on the stage and many even danced to the catchy tunes. The performance celebrated life at Joka and the beautiful relationships one forges in this campus. It was a tribute to this campus, our home for two years, the memorable times we spend here that leave an indelible mark in our memories and transform us into confident, smart and sassy young people for our journey ahead. The standing ovation that followed the performance bore testimony to the fact that indeed the act had touched the right chord and few glistening eyes in the audience were a reward for the hard work put in by the club for over a month. Reminiscence is an event where the entire campus glitters with warmth and adulation for the silver jubilee batch and this performance was truly a salute to all the Jokars who had walked in through the hallowed portals of this campus.
Speed Cubing Workshop

Nelson Mandela once said “It always seems impossible until its done”. When a layman sees a Rubik’s cube, a similar thought crops up in his/her mind. As MBA students who must be adept at problem solving, learning to solve a Rubik’s cube with its variety of algorithms becomes even more relevant. Keeping this in mind and adding onto the fun element of puzzles and games, Outthink club of IIM Calcutta presented its final event of the academic year – Speed cubing Workshop.

Ops COCIENTE 5.0

The operations club of IIM Calcutta, in keeping with its annual tradition, is conducting its 4th edition of its flagship event, Ops Cociente 5.0. In the previous academic year, Ops Cociente had seen a large participation of more than 250 teams from 28 institutions spanning across the country, and this year the bar has only been raised higher. With more than 380 registrations, Ops Cociente 5.0 was launched on 7th December 2016.

Engage Session 3

The weekend before the Reminiscence frenzy gripped Joka, an alumnus from batch 1988 flew down to the campus to interact with the students and give his invaluable insights from the world of IT Consulting. Mr. Mohan Kancharla has experience of over three decades in this space and is also a certified CEO coach. His enthusiasm was contagious and his anecdotes deep and meaningful. Every person sitting in the hall was surprised with how simple yet effective his ‘fundas’ were and looked to imbibe them in their lives. His probing questions on consulting and life left everyone thinking and the answers won admirers. He brought his entire experience on the table and it was an extremely fun and interesting session. The session also had the ‘tadka’ of a consulting quiz conducted by the alumni cell in collaboration with the consulting club of the campus. Many consulting enthusiasts signed up for the event and it turned out to be a success. This was evident by the applause that culminated the event.
Strategic Shakuni

Strategic Shakuni is a national level online Case Competition organized by Talent & Organizational Management Club (TOM) at IIM Calcutta. The competition was conducted in two rounds. Round 1 was an Online Quiz with 20 questions which tested participant’s knowledge on various aspects of quantitative ability and business acumen. Post Round 1, 10 teams qualified to be a part of Round 2.
Round 2 was a real-life company case based competition. What made it interesting and challenging was that participants had to study the business model of Stepping Stones, a career guidance and mentorship platform and offer them suggestions and recommendations pertaining to various business issues. Having participated in the competition and experienced it first hand, what made the competition engaging was the opportunity to be able to provide recommendations which had the possibility to tangibly impact the company. Questions ranged from suggesting a revenue model for the company, possible on-campus marketing strategies, possible ways to encode the learning from different engagements and how to design the optimum platform for its most important stakeholders which were the students.
Based on the novelty and relevance, the ideas could actually be implemented by Stepping Stones which made the competition much more exciting and overall a good experience.
