Summer Placements – 54th Batch; ‘A Sweet Summer Dream’

The 54th batch was successfully placed in two days and finally the grueling four months that made PGP1s toil the hardest they would’ve ever done in their lives came to a glorious end.

IIMC Toastmasters: Impromptu speech contest

“It usually takes me more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech”, proclaimed the famous American writer, Mark Twain. The 68th Toastmasters meet held in IIM Calcutta on October 15th 2017 was, however, an example of proving the contrary. The contest had no pre-registrations, which ensured that the participants had no time for ‘prep’.

The Economic Times Young Leaders B-School Edition, 2017

The Economic Times Young Leaders B-School Edition was organized in association with Aditya Birla Group and Gartner as a platform to recognize and reward India’s most promising final year management students, with an aim to encourage, identify and nurture young talent.

Almost 16000 students from across India competed in the 4 phase assessment, consisting of an online aptitude test, a test to assess the candidate's personality and managerial competencies, solving a case study based and a CEO interview round with top 10 CEOs in Mumbai.

3 IIM Calcutta students, consisting of both PGP and PGPEX programmes were among the 51 candidates who were selected for the CEO interview round in Mumbai. 23 candidates were selected as Young Leaders in the ET Young Leaders B-School edition list of 2017.
Quiz on the Beach, Kolkata City Round

IIM Calcutta hosted the city round for the 15th edition of TAPMI’s Quiz on The Beach (QoTB), on 8th October. Conceptualized in 2004 with the aim of creating a healthy competitive environment, QoTB brings together the sharpest student minds, giving them an opportunity to interact, network and learn from their peers in top Institutes from India and abroad.

The quiz, judged by Quiz Master Mohan, was a college level event which was open for teams based in Kolkata and neighboring cities. Teams of 2 from the same institute were allowed to participate. It saw participation from 15 colleges, including Birla Institute of Technology, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, NIT Rourkela and St. Xavier's College Kolkata. 41 teams competed for cash prizes, and the opportunity to test their quizzing mettle against the backdrop of the mighty Arabian Sea for the finals.
