It gives me immense pleasure in presenting the March 2020 issue of the Connexion. I am happy to inform you that IIM Calcutta has been allotted a prime land in New Town, Kolkata by the Government of West Bengal to set up a satellite campus. Since the eruption of the COVID-19 Corona Virus, the competent authority at IIM Calcutta has decided to defer the 55th Annual Convocation scheduled for April 04, 2020.
We have had two important Institute Lecture Series - 2nd Amitava Bose Memorial Lecture delivered by Nobel laureate Professor Richard H Thaler, the Charles R. Walgreen Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and 4th Arijit Mukherji Memorial Lecture by Dr. Krishnamurthy V. Subramanian, Chief Economic Advisor, Govt of India and an alumnus of IIM Calcutta. We celebrated Reminiscence, the flagship silver jubilee alumni reunion of the class of 1994 (PGP 29th batch) of IIM Calcutta and the Homecoming 2020, the 1st batch of PGPEX (now known as MBAEx) reunited during this period.
IIM Calcutta has significantly improved its alumni outreach through alumni reunions and other activities. In addition to Reminiscence, there were also separate reunions of PGP 7th batch, 38th batch, 20th batch and 14th batch. It was Golden Jubilee batch reunion for the 7th batch and Ruby reunion for the 14th batch. The Alumni Cell has done a splendid job in taking interviews of all the recipients of Distinguished Alumnus Awards and we present in this issue 3 out of 6 of their interviews for a good reading.
Among new initiatives, IIM Calcutta in partnership with Discovery Channel organized a mentorship session on entrepreneurship and a MoU has been signed recently between IIM Calcutta and the PGP 16th batch (Class of 1981) of IIM Calcutta to institute 'IIM Calcutta Annual Debate (In memory of Bobby Saldanha)’.
The final placement for the class of 2020 was very successful and the average salary stood at a record INR 28 Lakh with the median salary at INR 25.5 Lakh. In purview of the Government of India’s ‘Fit India Campaign’ the student-run, Fitness Club of IIM Calcutta organized first ‘7 Lake Run’, which was a great success.
Our efforts in promoting entrepreneurship continue. I am delighted to share that IIM Calcutta Innovation Park in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Govt. of India launches Hackathon-2020.
This issue also contains glimpses of many more events and activities at the Institute.
Enjoy as you read and know how your cherished alma mater is keeping pace with time!

Dean (New Initiative and External Relations)
